Google Business Profile for Taxi Businesses: Setup and Ranking Guide

How taxi and cab operators can set up and improve a Google Business Profile so they show up in Maps and "taxi near me" searches.

When someone searches "taxi near me" or "cab service in Dehradun", Google often shows a map with three businesses before any website. Those results come from Google Business Profiles. If your taxi business does not have one, or has one that is half-filled, you are invisible in the place where many bookings start.

This guide covers what to fill in, what to avoid and how your profile should work together with your website. For the wider checklist, see our local SEO checklist for taxi businesses.

Step 1: Claim or create the profile

Search your business name on Google Maps first. If a profile already exists, claim it instead of creating a duplicate. Duplicate profiles split your reviews and confuse Google.

You will need to verify the profile. Google decides which method is offered (a call, a text, an email or a video). Complete it as soon as it is offered, because an unverified profile cannot rank.

Step 2: Pick the right category

Your primary category is one of the strongest signals on the profile. For most operators "Taxi service" is the right choice. Add secondary categories only for services you really offer, for example airport shuttle or car rental.

Do not stuff categories with services you do not provide. It does not help and can cause the profile to be flagged.

Step 3: Name, address and phone must match your website

Use your real business name exactly as it appears on your signboard and website. Do not add keywords such as "Best Taxi in Dehradun" to the name field, because that breaks Google's guidelines.

Keep the name, address and phone number identical everywhere: profile, website footer, contact page and any directory listing. Small differences create doubt.

Step 4: Service area, not just an address

Many taxi businesses go to the customer, so set your service areas (the cities and towns you cover) rather than relying only on a street address. If you have an office that customers do not visit, you can hide the street address, but only if that matches how you really operate.

Step 5: Add real photos

Upload photos of your actual vehicles, drivers in uniform (with their consent) and your office or parking spot if relevant. Real photos build trust. Avoid stock images, because customers and Google can tell.

Step 6: Services and description

Write a plain description of what you do and where you operate. List services such as airport transfers, outstation trips and local rentals if you offer them. Stay factual: no claims you cannot back up.

Step 7: Reviews, handled properly

Reviews are a major ranking and trust factor. Ask satisfied customers for a review right after a good trip, ideally with a direct link to your review page. Reply to every review, good or bad, politely and briefly.

Never buy reviews or offer rewards for reviews. Google can remove them and penalise the profile.

Your profile's website link should open a page that matches the search. For a taxi business, that means a fast mobile page with your routes, your phone number and a clear way to book, not a slow homepage full of unrelated text. A taxi booking website with route pages gives the profile somewhere useful to send people, and our Anaya Cab case study shows how a local taxi site can be structured around city services and routes.

Common mistakes

  • Creating a second profile for the same business
  • Using a P.O. box or a virtual address
  • Keyword-stuffed business names
  • Ignoring reviews
  • Having a different phone number on the profile and on the website

What it will not do

A good profile improves your chances in Maps, but it does not guarantee a position. Rankings depend on competition in your area, the strength of your website and how customers interact with your profile.
